01) what is list3n.com? ^
List3n.com is a site built around the principles of social networking and group contributions. Basically, users can create a list and its items and other people can contribute to the list by adding their own items or voting for the items that they like or agree with. Lists can be serious or humorous in nature. After enough time has passed to allow others to contribute to a list, the creator will then have an idea of how others view it. In addition to voting for items, people can also vote for lists so the the best lists are easier to find. Users can even add comments to the lists in order to debate or further discuss a list and its items. RSS feeds also allow people to follow the lists that are of interest to them and their friends.
02) do I have to register? ^
You do not have to register in order to view the site and its lists. You can view any list as well as all of its items, comments, etc. However, registering will give you the full access to all of the features of the site. Registered users can add their own lists and items. They can also comment, vote on lists and items, save their friends, and save their favorite lists.
03) what does a list page show me? ^
An initial list page will show you the name of the list at the top followed by the number of votes that the list has accumulated. The number of votes is in parentheses. The next displays the categories and tags that are associated with the list. The following line shows the name of the user that submitted the list as well as the date and time that it was added. Below the user name is a description of the list that was added by the submitting user.
Several tabs are located below the description. The first allows you to switch from the top 10 view in order to see all of the items that have been submitted. Click the "add item" tab if you want to add your own item to the list. The next tab allows you to vote for the list and the last tab allows you to save the list as a favorite. You must be signed in to vote or save a list.
Below the tabs is the list of items in order of total votes. If you selected the "show all" tab you will see more than just the top 10. Each item is followed by the number of vote, which is enclosed in parentheses. Clicking on the vote total will add one vote to the items total, assuming that you are logged in. Below the item line you will see who submitted it and when. If the user added an item comment when it was submitted, it will be listed as well.
After the items, you will find comments that have been left by other users. At the bottom of the page is the comment submission form where you can add your own comments to the page. Please note that comments are different than items and cannot be voted on.
04) how do I search? ^
On the left side of each page is a drop down box that allows you to select what type of search you want to perform. It is above a the box where you type the word(s) or characters that you are looking for. After entering the text, press enter to get your results.
The "search lists" option will search both list names and list descriptions for your text. The "search items" option will look in the item names and item description. The "search tags" option will search each of the five possible tags/categories for each list. The "search comments" option will search for your text in all of the user comments in all of the lists. Finally, the "search user" option return all of the user that have your search text in either their user name, real name, location, myspace user name, or digg user name.
05) how do I register? ^
Clicking on the "register" link on the left side of the page will take you to the registration page. The first four fields are required. Your e-mail address, while required in case you lose or forget your password, will not be shown to other users. It is display on your personal profile page that only you can see. This information belongs to you and will never be shared with anyone else. All other information, except for passwords, will be visible to other users so do not enter anything that you don't want others to know. However, entering information such as your real name, location, myspace name, etc. will make it easier for your friends to find you. Use your best judgment when deciding what to disclose about yourself.
After submitting your info, you will then be able to sign on using your new user name and password. If you are not currently logged in, the log in boxes will be located on the left side of the screen. If you are signed in, you will see a profile link in its place, as well as several more options that are available only to registered users.

When voting for items, it is recommended that you select the "show all" tab in order to see the items that have not yet made it to the top 10. If no one ever looked at the items that are not in the top 10, it would never change. More recent submissions may be just as good, if not better than the current top 10 so the only way to elevate then to the top 10 is to find them and vote for them.
Whenever you submit a new list or an item, you are automatically given credit for voting for that list or item. That is why they begin with a vote count of one.
You must be logged in to vote and you can only vote on something once. Using multiple accounts to vote on the same list or item is not allowed. Your user name and ip address are logged with each vote so if two people are using the same computer or behind the same nat router, unfortunately, you will not be able to vote for the same items.
